PHPMagazine:
IBM's Cloudscape to Support PHP
Aug 23, 2004 @ 12:10:15

In a quick note from a new posting on PHPMagazine:

Cloudscape, acquired along with IBM's billion-dollar buyout of Informix in 2001, is a 2MB embeddable, fully-functioned relational database that does not require a database administrator to manage it. Recently IBM had announced open-sourcing of its Cloudscape database in a bid to gain control of the middleware space at Microsoft's expense. In an interview to the Asia Computer Weekly, Janet Perna, general manager of Data Management Software Group, revealed that IBM is making available a commercial version of Cloudscape in September that will evolve as a snapshot of Derby (the copy of Cloudscape that has been handed over to the Apache Software Foundation to build a community of users around it). This version will feature support for PHP and Perl for Linux.

Sounds like a step in the right direction for IBM...
