You know that you have become a certified geek when you rejoice at the release of something called PHP5rc3, but that is what PHP developers around the globe did this week. A lot of bugs were squashed in the run up to this release, and the word is that unless any show-stopping bugs reveal themselves we will probably see a PHP 5 final release within a month.

On the PEAR front, the votes for the Quality Assurance team have come in. [...] The QA team will be responsible for communicating with the PEAR developers (regarding the development of their packages), ensuring that standards are maintained, and, when packages have been abandoned or the maintainer is not able to fix bugs, either designating someone to fix the bug or removing the package in question.
