PHPMath:
A Change of Direction
May 04, 2004 @ 12:09:17

In a new note from PHPMath.com, there is a little bit of discouraging news:

I have attempted to make this into a community site by putting up a group file manager, hosting a mailing list, encouraging others to contribute, etc... To date there has been very little participation or contributions of code except my own or code I have copied from other sources with their permission. Given this it would appear to be a waste of my time to try to go out of my way to make this into a community site. From here on in, I will treat this more like a site to distribute and promote Datavore Productions open source code than an attempt to sponsor the development of a community of php + math hackers. Wish it had of turned out otherwise. If you feel I am selling out by doing this, then maybe you should have considered contributing some code, fixes, etc... Also, keep in mind that there is a lot of open source code on this site developed by your's truly and available to use in your projects as you see fit.

In reality probably not much will change as I will continue to write articles and post code to the site. We will just not be engaging in the charade that there is a community effort behind phpmath.

I'm glad it's still sticking around in some aspects, but I also know how draining running a site can be, especially when no one comes for the intended purpose. It's a tough niche to find an audience for, and you definitely have to respect Paul for giving it his best...
