InternetWeek:
PHP/MySQL Restriction Fears
Apr 01, 2004 @ 13:10:23

From InternetWeek.com this morning, there's a new article meant to counteract some of the bad rumors that have been spread about the state of affairs between PHP and MySQL.

In MySQL-PHP Restriction Fears Unwarranted, they talk about some of the backlash that the PHP/MySQL separation has caused - The restrictions put MySQL on the same terms as most closed systems integrating with a relational database--libraries not always included. [...] By unbundling MySQL libraries from PHP, the company eliminated one of the key advantages that made its product the de facto choice for many database-driven Web apps.

I wonder sometimes just how much that change really effected things in the PHP world. How many people switched over to another RDBMS during that time of turmoil (when no one knew if MySQL was going to play nice or not). How many of you out there have dropped your usage of MySQL in your applications (or dropped completely)?
