As PHP5 draws even closer, more and more differing opinions are starting to surface, including John Lim's latest posting - PHP5 Evolutionary Lies.
Comrades, I'm sick of hearing that PHP5 is evolutionary. If you believe that PHP5 is evolutionary because it stresses backward compatibility, then try bending over backwards - you'll find that it feels very stressful. PHP5 is not going to go down easily. PHP5 is going to be painful and its going to be revolutionary.
Several of the reasons he gives include:
- Revolutions are bloody. Lots of people lost their heads during the French Revolution. PHP5 is a revolution that will give developers more room for fisticuffs and swinging debates.
- PHP5 will have OOP for dummies - you don't need to be a superguru who understands & anymore to correctly implement classes.
- PHP5 even has XML for dummies - SimpleXML is the best XML API in the world for people who have no time for XML.
