PHP Magazine has a posting this morning for anyone out there that's been frustrated with getting any kind of real results from response timers on their scripts.
In Measuring Response Times of PHP Pages, several suggestions are made, including:
- timing on the command line (time php script.php)
- Template caching such as Turck MMCache or a PEAR benchmarking class
- And Apache's own tool - ab
Of course, there are more options than just these three, but these are some of the more popular and easy to use. I love the idea that the Zend Studio's Profiler that, with the help of a Zend-installed webserver, can take your script(s) and disect them according to where the bottlenecks are.
