With all of the choices these days when it comes to RDBMS, it's nice to know that there are still some places that the creative spirit is still alive. Firebird is one such project, and they have released their latest version.
The Firebird Project is pleased to announce that the v1.5 release of the Firebird database engine is now available for immediate download.
The v1.5 release represents a major upgrade to the engine, which has been developed by an independent team of voluntary developers from the InterBase(tm) source code that was released by Borland under the InterBase Public License v.1.0 on 25 July 2000.
Of course, seeing as how the code is based loosely on the Interbase source code released by Inprise Corp/Borland, they've come a long way to making it a nice, clean, easy-to-use database system. And, what would a post like this be without some mention of how you can get PHP to cooperate with it all. Thankfully, since it's based on Interbase, you can use all of the extensions that go along with that to make nice, stable connections...
