In a link from the folks at PHP Magazine, an interview has been posted over on the SitePoint website with James Atkinson, Founder of phpBB.

In this interview, they cover all sorts of topics including: how it got started, why they keep the code for it Open Source, and what he thinks it really takes for an site's forums to really take off. They go on to talk more about the development of phpBB, and some of the hurdles that they had to overcome there - including a small bug that was noticed in version 1 of the system, a misspelling of the word "category".

Overall, the interview is a good read. Close to the end, it starts sounding like a promotional tool for phpBB v2.2, but, thankfully, they don't take it quite that far...
