Vancouver PHP Wrapup
Jan 28, 2004 @ 13:24:56

In a wrap-up from the Vancouver PHP conference, John Coggeshall has posted his summary and personal reflections from the event.

From this posting: Well, I'm back from the Vancouver conference, and I must say I was very impressed. I've been to a number of conferences on PHP (probably too many) and, for what the attendees paid (150 CDN I think was the highest for anyone) it was well worth the money.

There were several talks, some that he personally presented, and some others that sound like they were quite worth the while (Birds of a Feather sessions, Philter, etc) and an interesting note about a talk he had with Zak from the MySQL team about the MySQL License Debate:

He cleared something up that has been bugging me a long time: charging end users multiple times for a MySQL license. The way things work right now is something like this: If I want to write an application which uses MySQL as its back end, and then want to sell that product the MySQL feels it should be paid.

John notes that those might not be his exact words, but it seems like it's pretty close to me...
