php|architect weblog:
Is PHP 5 Evolutionary?
Jan 21, 2004 @ 13:09:49

Over on the php|architect weblog there's a new entry that talks about the future of PHP5 in reference to an article from LinuxWorld.

This article quotes Rasmus himself as saying that PHP is "evolutionary rather than revolutionary" in the web field. Now, of course, like any PHP coder, your gut reaction is probably the same as this weblog entry - PHP is quite revolutionary!

And, in their opinion, the adoption of PHP5 will by an uphill battle, due to the fact that at least some of the existing codebase will have to be modified in order for it to work on the new platform. One thing that we certainly don't need is articles like this one, quoting well-known PHP personalities as they minimize what is an important step in the growth of the PHP platform.

What do all of you readers think about this one? Do you think that PHP, with all of the latest introductions in the language (Zend Engine 2, more OOP functionality) make it much more revolutionary than just simply evolutionary?
