PHPMath:
Grokking Stats and BioPHP
Oct 29, 2003 @ 13:07:35

New from PHPMath.com this morning, Paul Meagher wrote in to tell us about some new math classes featured in the latest PHPMagazine, written by Jesus M. Castagnetto.

In the latest issue of PHP Magazine, Jesus M. Castagnetto describes how to use his excellent Math_Stats and Math_Histogram classes to compute and display various descriptive stats. The PDF version of the article that they've generated still has some typos from their conversion process (missing a sigma, etc.) but it is not hard to read around these minor issues. I encourage you all to read it over as these classes are also being actively used and developed on this site as well.

Also, there's a side note about a new project in the PHP world - The BioPHP Project.

Jesus also announced the BioPHP project and invited all with an interest in PHP/Math/Science to help out. Be sure to check out the forum for some recent discussion on direction. The sequencing code that is currently available for BioPHP looks interesting but I will need to start boning up on some genetics before I will fully grok what is going on here.
