In Doing More With phpMyAdmin (Part 1), the author takes you through some of the more advanced things that phpMyAdmin can accomplish, assuming that you know the basics already. They do show you how to get it installed (quickly, again assuming you know how), and then move onto securing the installation. They even show you how you can use phpMyAdmin not just for your local machine, but also to administrate other MySQL servers at the same time.
They go on to talk about some of the reporting tools that are built into phpMyAdmin distributions, including: query stats, status variables, and active processes. There's even options in the config to alter the way the application looks...
