PHPEverywhere:
More on Pharrot
Oct 28, 2003 @ 13:06:12

With a new update on the PHP & Parrot front, PHPEverywhere has a new piece posted this morning talking more about the future of PHP and Parrot.

John Coggeshall mentions that the PHP on Parrot project has been named "Pharrot" by the php-con conference attendees. [...] Although Sterling and Thies are very modest, given the fact that they were given the closing keynote and the amazing performance improvements - Pharrot will probably be PHP 6.

And, perhaps the most surprising comment:
The Zend API is dead - big deal. Parrot is a big opportunity for companies with skill and resolve. The tools market for open source programming languages suddenly becomes much larger because you are able to support so many more languages effectively.

According to his predictions, the first beta of Pharrot will be out in 2006. What do all of you think? Is the PHP/Parrot synthesis a good thing, or would it cause a rift in the PHP community?
