New this morning is the latest from Zend - this week's PHP Weekly Summary.
In one of the larger news items from this week's summary, the announcement has been made that the PHP 5 Beta 2 is not too far out. Ideally, the release will be made on the 30th of October in an effort to "build the necessary momentum" to get more and more betas out there to the PHP public. Also included in this summary (and a mention of it over on a new posting on PHPEverywhere), there is a large group still wanting to add the regular expression operator (~=) to the PHP core. While the idea itself may be a good one, in practice it is unlikely to happen for a number of reasons. So, despite the usefulness that this might bring, the PHP developers see more harm than good coming from it, and have chosen not to include it.
Also this week there are a few mentions of bug fixes including issues with BIND 9, some problems found on WDDX in a 64-bit environment, and some corrections that have been made to the Zend Engine 2's memory cache.
