InfoWorld:
Web Applications Rule the Day
Oct 14, 2003 @ 12:18:40

Harry Fuecks wrote in to tell me about a new article from InfoWorld they posted just the other day talking about developers/companies who love their web applications, sometimes even more than their desktop apps.

Web applications rule the enterprise. That's the indisputable conclusion to be drawn from this year's InfoWorld Programming Survey. Despite imperitives from Microsoft and others that developers abandon server-based HTML apps for fat desktop clients, the ease of "zero deployment" through the browser continues to win the day.

There is even a mention of PHP as being one of the "big players" in the web application world, and shows proof of it's speed: Katie Barnes, an experienced independent developer in Oakland, Calif., extols the virtues of the open source scripting language PHP [...] If you want to get interactive Web pages up and running fast," Barnes says, "you want to do it with PHP."

The world is taking notice, and PHP has been consistently moving into the mainstream. The powerful little web language that we all know and love is branching out, making new friends, and showing the world that it can do just as well with the "big boys" as anyone else.
