The talk of the PHP community this morning is a new blog entry over on Philip Greenspun's Weblog talking about Java and it's requirements for programmers.
After researching how to do bind variables in Java (see the very end of http://philip.greenspun.com/internet-application-workbook/software-structure), which turns out to be much harder and more error-prone than in 20-year-old C interfaces to relational databases, I had an epiphany: Java is the SUV of programming tools.
He goes on to talk about the comparison of Java to other languages, and how it can only lead to things that larger and harder to maintain than other similar languages, like C++ or PHP. There is also a new posting over on PHPComplete.com on the subject too. He contributes:
Of course, I could complain about Java, and give you 20 problems Java has. Indeed, if Java was perfect, they wouldn't need new versions. =) Anyways, the real point is who cares? PHP people seem to try hard to say "Hey, we are good, too!", and Java people seem to "We are supreme, you suck."
What do you all think on this debate?
