Against Design Patterns?
Aug 04, 2003 @ 12:06:45

From PHPEverywhere this morning, there's a link to another blog talking about patterns in PHP - this time, it's Leendert Brouwer's.

I'm writing this article at the time PHP5 is coming, and there's a noticable increase of interest in Object Oriented Programming in the PHP world. We're seeing PHP programmers digging in OO theory more and more lately. I encourage that. In fact, I've written a few articles on it which were well received. An important element of OO theory are so called Design Patterns.

He goes on to say that, desipte the new features that PHP5 will include, and the major advancements to the OOP process that will be built in, patterns just really don't have much place in this language. He offers suggestions like Do things the most conventional way or Exploit PHP's flexibility to its fullest instead as alternatives to trying to implement a design pattern in your code.

Again, thanks to PHPEVerywhere for the link...
