While not specifically targeted at PHP users/developers out there, I think that this posting over on the php|architect weblog makes a very valid point about the world of Open Source development.
In my opinion, this brings up a dilemma of open-source projects. Since OSS is created and maintained by individuals who, for the most past, do so in their own spare time and on a volunteer basis, it's sometimes difficult as a lay person to have your wishes fulfilled and actually find that your feature request, in fact, ends up being part of the final product.
He even lists several "etiquette rules" that would be wonderful to follow when you're considering contributing (or even emailing) about an Open Source project. These include things like "Remember that the people who work on the project do so on their time and do not work for you." and "Do not file the same bug more than once. Doing so will only annoy people." These are some great tips that I think more and more people out there would benefit from if followed.
