PHPComplete:
Making a Bayesian Web
May 28, 2003 @ 13:19:45

PHPComplete has a new posting this morning that might be the dawn of a new way to look at the web and searching it for content that you want to find. Remember the Bayesian filtering that's becoming so popular in email clients to combat spam? Well, here's another idea...

I swear I was thinking about this yesterday, on my way home. I had a few ideas involved with Bayesian Filtering, and I was running them through my head. The idea involved searching, and not spam. Here I was thinking: "Wouldn't it be nice if Google knew what I wanted and what I didn't want." I started thinking of other applications, and I started to smell smoke (all that thinking you know), and decided to go to sleep.

Of course, this could mean a new way to look at the web, finding only the content you want (from blogs and the like) based on keywords and topics that are of interest to you. Imagine having an open source tool, written in PHP or some other language, that could pull what you like from the web...sounds like a service the big corps make you pay for - and you only get their content!
