From over on the php|architect web log, there's "a few reflections on the world of PHP" from Marco Tabini.
One of the other people who attended the [PHP Conference in Montreal] told me that, as a business person, he would be unable to decide whether PHP was a viable solution based on what he had learned at the conference... How to solve this problem? Perhaps by forming a consortium of PHP-centric companies that invest together in the creation of a marketing strategy? But, according to PHPEverwhere, they don't think PHP needs a marketing strategy at the moment.
PHP is still in its early days as a language, and it needs some time to mature, and for more things to get standardized. Rushing things when PHP isn't ready for such a spotlight won't help matters.
