Bringing the Outside In?

Do you remember the time back when you knew nothing of PHP? Back when Perl or ASP was the dominant force, working to "make the web a better place"? Every one of us had to start somewhere, and every one of us had to hear about PHP from someone (or somewhere) - do you remember when you first were introduced to the fastest-growing web scripting language out there?

I wonder how much the community does to promote the language itself. Yes, I know there are tons of sites out there that are about PHP, and list scripts/news/forums/resources/etc that have to do with PHP, but I wonder why there's not a central place that tries its best to promote PHP. Sure, it would probably have to be pretty heavily involved with the PHP.net folks, but I'm not sure what all would be involved. Does PHP even need a "promotion agency" to help it along? Or is it doing pretty well on its own?

What do you all think? Should there be some company or site thats sole purpose is to try to get PHP out to as may people as possible? I think that most of the problem with PHP is that people just don't understand what all it can do, and how much power they get in its little package...
