Evolt:
An Undertaking of Epic Proportions
Feb 05, 2003 @ 13:33:23

There's an interesting project going on over at Evolt involving some of the latest web technologies, and the Microsoft website.

In their latest series, A Corporate Redesign (Part 1), they're taking the current state of the Microsoft website, and reworking it with correct XHTML, CSS, and Javascripting that won't break on every other browser in the world: Another such culprit of bad corporate design is Microsoft.com. Their site renders exactly as they wanted it to, only in IE and not in any other browsers. They have used extensive JavaScript to provide their menus, client sniffing, and IE specific code. Their main page cannot even be validated as it is missing a DTD causing the W3C validator to fail it immediately. Adding a DOCTYPE isn't even the beginning of the page's problems.

It's an interesting idea, stemming from the need for more acceptance of the standards of today (and not the leftovers of yesteryear) in websites all around the internet. Keep an eye out for the next article in this series, where they start to rip apart that menu in the top right of their page...
