CodeWalkers has a new review of the latest PHP book from Wrox publishing this morning - Professional PHP4 Web Development Solutions.
While I don't want to spoil the review (and so you'll go over an visit CodeWalkers), there are some interesting points raised about the book - like how it talks about databases, and the example code it has you go through to show it's examples.
It's not a very in-depth review, but the points it raises are valid. There needs to be a bit more than just the "what is php, here's some examples, here's how they work" kinds of books out there. One of the nice things about books like The PHP Cookbook is that they show you a quick and easy way to do something, and not so much of the theory behind things. They give a problem, a solution, and how it works so that you know how to modify it if the need arrises...
