For all of those people out there anxiously awaiting the release of PHP5 and trying to get all the info they can on it - you (and your boss) might check out this new article that asks the question "PHP5: Ready For The Enterprise?"
PHP version 5, expected to appear in beta form by March, 2003, and released in the summer of 2003, could change all that. Significant performance improvements and a much more complete object-oriented programming environment will allow PHP to provide a powerful Web front end for enterprise-class .NET and J2EE-based applications.
There's some talk in there about the design ideas behind some of the new features that will be in PHP5, as well as the hopes that PHP will become greater than it's biggest web scripting competitor - Perl. More of the larger companies that are using PHP need to step forward and show the world that they're using it - that might help put PHP on more people's maps as far as programming for the web...
