Novell Announces MySQL Addition
Oct 24, 2002 @ 13:03:03

In a rather large move, the folks over at Novell announced this past Monday that it will ship a licensed version of the open-source MySQL database with every version of Netware, giving users of Netware access to the same development tools and apps that run on the Linux platform.

According to this article, Novell made the decision to switch to "NAMP" (Novell, Apache, MySQL, PHP) to keep it's developers from abdicating to one of the linux OSes out there.

"What we're trying to do is provide Web developers with the same set of tools they are used to with the LAMP environment," said Magnusson. "All of those developers can now run on Netware the same applications -- unchanged and unmodified -- on Netware they are able to run on Linux."

Sounds like a smart move on their part, bringing something that the developers already love on board, helping them to love the OS just that much more....
