PHPClasses.org is trying something new with their "Lately in PHP" podcast for this latest episode - they want you to be a part of it via a Google hangout.

The Google Hangouts On Air edition is not yet generally available to all Google+ users. However, thanks to the guides of the Google Top Contributor program, on which I have the pleasure and the privilege to participate, this feature was enabled on the PHP Classes site Google+ account. Therefore, starting the next episode, we are going to try recording the Lately in PHP podcast using the Google Hangouts On Air. This is still an experimental idea, but if all goes well, all the upcoming podcast episodes will be recorded this way.

Instructions are included in the post if you'd like to participate in the upcoming episode (recording time is yet to be determined).

As Lorna Mitchell has pointed out, the Call for Participation is open for this year's O'Reilly Open Source Convention - but the deadline is February 3rd!

We want to hear about your winning techniques, favorite life-savers, and the system you've made that everyone will be using next year.

They have a few suggestions to consider when submitting your idea - things like "keep it free of marketing", "Straightforward titles are best" and "Explain why people want to attend". You can submit your idea via their proposal form.

The Zend Developer Zone has posted about a new survey that Adobe is doing to try to get to know some of the web developers out there.

Adobe is hoping to play a little SHOW and TELL with PHP developers. We SHOW you what we are working on, you TELL us if you think we've got it right. Please take a minute to complete the survey we have posted here:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=540413426135

If they think you're a good match, they'll get in contact with you. There's also a gratuity of $150 to compensate for your time for the talk.

Zend Developer Zone: (Re)building the PHP Documentation at Wikibooks.org

Brett Zamir has some suggestions for the PHP documentation group in his new post on the Zend Developer Network.

<quote>

The folks working on the official PHP Documentation have done a marvellous job in providing a mostly easy to follow documentation, with good examples. However, as with anything, there can still be some improvement. I see two shortcomings and these have to do with structure rather than content, and I think the community can help solve them.

</quote>

There's two things he suggests can be done to help refine the documentation process, including a move into a more wiki-style environment (with the content under a fully open license). Specifically, he suggests making a move to Wikibooks to encourage more participation from the PHP community.
