Knut Urdalen has announced the forming of a Norwegian PHP user group for those developers in and around Oslo.

I'm very glad to announce that the Norwegian PHP User Group (PHP Norge) will have it's first user group meeting next thursday (March 22nd). Our main goal is to gather the norwegian PHP community and spread more knowledge about PHP.

We will be doing that by having a monthly user group meeting downtown Oslo. On each user group meeting we will gather around a specific topic and invite guest speakers for an in-depth presentation. Afterwards we will have time for discussion and some informal socializing.

You can get complete information about the group and about where the next meeting is from their main website.

Marcus from php|architect got a chance to talk a bit with Zak Greant (from eZ Systems) about the "unconference" he's been organizing in Normay, the PHP Vikinger.

<quote>

I had the pleasure of chatting with Zak Greant of EZ Systems about his unconference, PHP Vikinger. The unconference will be happening June 24th and 25th immediately following the EZ Publish User Conference in Skien, Norway. Zak has many hopes for people staying the extra two days, and he explained why in this interview

</quote>

They discuss where the name came from, why they chose the "unconference" route, and what's expected of it.

Sebastian Bergmann has more information posted on his blog about the upcoming PHP Vikinger Conference to be held in Norway.

<quote>

The PHP Vikinger is a community-driven PHP event that will be held in Skien, Norway from June 24th to 25th. Like the famous Foo Camp and Bar Camp, PHP Vikinger is driven by its attendees. The people who come choose and present the sessions at the event.

Attendance is by a mix of invitation and registration. 50 invitations have been sent to various PEAR and PHP contributors and 50 spots are open for people who register. Additionally, the invitees have been asked to nominate another 50 people who should be invited to the event.

</quote>

The conference also seeks to be more affordable that some others out there, only costing 20 Euros to attend (as well as simple food/place to sleep). You can get complete details on the conference's main site. (Open registration will open in about a week or so, according to Zak Greant)

On Polymorph, Zak Greant's blog, today there's a brief post mentioing the official site for a new conference in Norway - PHPVikinger.org.

The conference will be happening in Skein, Norway from June 24th through 25th and will follow the "unconference" mentality - allowing the attendees to set the agend for the event. Rooms for the conference and amenities will be provided (including wireless internet), and space will be provided for attendees to stay (space at a local school) as well as simple meals.

Registration for the event will cost 20 Euros, and all of the money raised will go to various "free culture, free information, and free software groups".

For complete details and updates on the conference, check out their site...
