Evans Data Corporation: More Developers Are Using AJAX & PHP in Emerging Markets Than North America

According to this new release from the Evans Data Corporation, certain technologies are being more well used in other areas besides in North America - including PHP.

There is a greater disparity with PHP use in Emerging Markets. The largest number of developers using the language can be found in Eastern Europe (39%). India and Brazil have similar usage at a little over 31%. In contrast, only 21% of Chinese developers are utilizing PHP. In North America, 35% of developers are using PHP.

They also talk about the usage rates of a few other technologies, including Flash, Ajax, Windows, and Linux.

Cal Evans also mentions these trends in this post on the Zend Developer Zone as well as linking to the full EDC report.

A new PHP event has been put together for those a bit more outdoor-inclined - PHP Appalachia.

<quote>

PHP Appalachia is an informal gathering of PHP enthusiasts who just want an excuse to get together and enjoy exchanging
information in a relaxed, beautiful setting. There is no set agenda, no formal speakers. Just 3 days of camping and
sharing PHP ideas and experiences with people just like you.

This gathering will be held at the Cherokee/Great Smokies KOA in Cherokee, NC. Yes, wireless Internet is available at the
campground!

</quote>

Anyone with any knowledge (or an urge to learn) about PHP is welcome to attend. Reegistration is only $15 USD for attendance price, including an event t-shirt. Accomodations are available for a reasonable rate (besides brining your own shelter) and meals are available for about $25 USD per day.

You can get the complete details from the event's website, and if you'd like to help promote the camping trip, digg it!
