In this new post from Anson Cheung, he shows you a way to easily create nodes in an eZ Publish-based application, importing content, XML and files/files.

Node creation in eZ Publish by using PHP is not well documented. However, when you encounter a large number of contents need to be insert periodically. You would ask is there any way to automate the content insert function with script in eZ Publish??? Any here I am going to summarize the way to achieve.

He includes the code examples showing how to:

Set the creator

Import generic content and attaching it to a parent node

Importing some XML content

Adding an image or file record that points to a local file

Knut Urdalen's Blog: Managing eZ Publish Web Content Management Projects

Knut Urdalen has written up a book review of a new release from the Packt Publishing folks - "Managing eZ Publish Web Content Management Projects" by Matrin Bauer.

I just went through it and this is the first book ever written about managing content management projects in general and using eZ Publish in particular. There's a lot of technical documentation and end user documentation about eZ Publish, but there has not been any documentation for project managers besides the more general project management literature.

He talks about the contents of the book - information on the phases of a project life cycle - and the level of technical knowledge that's required to understand it. He condones the book and recommends it specifically to project managers looking to get a bit more insight into what's happening with their eZ Publish projects.

Thomas submitted a story to us today about an award that the eZ Systems group (developers of the eZ Components framework among other things) has received for the second time - the Web Idol Award (2007).

Five software vendors got six minutes each to show their CMS solution to an audience comprised of the conference attendees. After the demonstrations, a panel of judges commented on the presentation. The audience voted eZ Publish as the best CMS solution, and eZ Flow as having the most appealing first impression.

The show was hosted by Teresa Regli and the judges included Erik Hartman, James Robertson and Tony Byrne, founder and editor of CMSWatch.

As mentioned in this new post on the php|architect website, the eZ Systems group have announced a new extension for their software (eZ Publish) to link with an Oracle database, under a GPL license no less.

This extension was previously only available under a proprietary license and was sold from $899 to $2999. It is now freely available. Last year, eZ Systems also released the Online Editor, previously only available under a proprietary license, as Open Source software under the GPL.

For more information, check out the project's documentation on the extension or just download it and get busy working.

Bard Farstad's Blog: Optimizing PHP for Intel based Mac

Bard Farstad has had trouble with ez publish</a. running slowly on his Intel-based Mac - enough trouble to want to do something about it. It's that process that he describes in this new post on his blog.

Running PHP and eZ publish on PowerPC based Macs have been extreemly slow and now that I have eZ publish running on the Intel based Mac I tried to tune it to get maximum performance out of it when running eZ publish as I was not satistied with my previous tests.

He tries three things - patching the eZ publish intsallation with the latest update, installing a patch for the PHP installation on a FreeBSD machine, and finally trying out the ICC compiler for OS X and see if it helped (it didn't). Unfortunately, he's still looking for a cure for his Mac/PHP woes and would love some input from anyone out there noticing the same issue.
