On the PHPWomen blog today there's a new post from Lineke Kerckhoffs-Willems talking about her experiences at this year's Dutch PHP Conference (2011) that wrapped up about two weeks ago in Amsterdam.

About two weeks ago I attended the Dutch PHP Conference with many thanks to PHPWomen and Ibuildings for the ticket. So far I have attended almost all editions of the Dutch PHP Conference (DPC), I only missed one. So I knew it would be awesome before it even started and I was right!

She covers each of the days and some of the talks and events she attended including the keynote from Aral Blakan, a talk about test-driven development, the unconference, a look at the "new era of PHP frameworks" and character sets in MySQL (co-presented by Ligaya Turmelle, a fellow PHPWomen member).

Stefan Koopmanschap has a quick look at PHP's presence "in the low lands" around the Netherlands.

As my previous post shows, PHP is active in the Netherlands, and our user group is acting on that. However there's more beyond our user group in this little country!

He mentions the pfCongrez (April 15th in Maarssen, online registration required, about 17 Euro) and the Dutch PHP Conference (June 11-13th in Amsterdam, full ticket is 500 Euro) both with excellent sessions by speakers like Derick Rethans, Matthew Weier O'Phinney and Eli White.

This year's Dutch PHP Conference has been officially announced:

Ibuildings and Zend Technologies are proud to organize the second Dutch PHP Conference on June 14. Plus a pre-conference tutorial day on June 13. Both programs will be completely in English so the only Dutch thing about it is the location. Keywords for these days: Know-how, Best Practices, Networking, Tips & Tricks

This year's even will be happening somewhere in Amsterdam and "big shot" speakers like Lorna Jane Mitchell, Zeev Suraski, Sebastian Bergmann, Matthew Weier O'Phinney, Fabien Potencier, Marco Tabini, and Ivo Jansch will be presenting. If you register before April 14th, you can get in on the Early Bird Special of 350 Euro for both days, 295 Euro for the Tutorial day or 100 Euro for just the conference.

You can get the full story on this year's even (including the schedule) from the conference's main website.

Community News: Dutch PHP Conference 2007 Sold Out

The folks heading up the Dutch PHP Conference this year (happening in 5 short days) have posted the complete list of speakers for this year's event including:

Cal Evans - "My First Mashup"

Gaylord Aulke - "Zend Framework"

Stefan Koopmanschap - "Symfony Framework"

Derick Rethans - "Test-driven Development"

Unfortunately, if you haven't gotten your tickets already, you're going to have to wait until next year. According to Ivo Jansch, the conference sold out right before the early-bird deadline came around. With such a great showing from developers and a great lineup of speakers for this year, you can almost guarantee that there'll be a conference next year too - so keep your eyes out for it.

Aaron Wormus' Blog: Amsterdam PHP Conference Cancelled

Aaron Wormus has some sad news for those that enjoyed attending the annual Amsterdam PHP Conference - apparently, this year's edition has been canceled.

<quote>

The news has broken in a report on PHP-Center that the traditional annual PHP Spring Conference in Amsterdam has been cancelled this year. Because of the World Cup, people from all over the world will be flooding into Amsterdam, this influx of tourists has created a shortage of some of the essential ingrediants without which the conference cannot operate. Of course, I'm talking about the lack of a venue.

</quote>

It's sad to see that one of the more popular European PHP conferences won't be happening this year, but there's always the International PHP Conference to look forward to:

<quote>

On the bright side, there's word on the rumor mill that the International PHP Conferece in November is going to be bigger that ever, and will introduce a big sponsor which has yet to sponsor PHP events.
